This exciting book, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz, is a beautiful blend of politics, magic, and fantasy. It features the usual power struggle between princes for total dominance and their witty father, who would do what it takes to protect his throne.

The book tells the story of a king with four sons, who all had legitimate rights to his throne. Although they were all fighting for his throne at first, one day, the kings suspected the brothers had agreed on whom to take the throne. Thinking that they had finally decided to remove him from the throne, he devised a strategy. He gifted them four islands, where they would all rule, but once again fought for true dominance of the island.

Due to the brothers' fights, life on the island, now known as the Land of Princes, became unbearable, and as a result, people fled to the land of Voulhire. This started to become a problem for Voulhire, so the king banned immigration into Voulhire except under exceptional circumstances. Galen, one of the immigrants, was able to get into Voulhire to claim his inheritance from his uncle, who had just passed. Here, he meets Rowan, his uncle's executor, who helps him inherit the steel forge his uncle left him. But everything is not as it seems in Voulhire, as the king might not be as honest as he presents himself to be, and this peaceful town of Voulhire might not be all that meets the eyes as there are many secrets hidden behind the scenes.

This book is an exciting read that keeps readers hooked throughout. The characters are well-developed, and the author beautifully portrays their characteristics. I liked how the author presented the political aspect of this book. He did not make the king all-powerful, but he added political figures like Lord Meldorath, who could instill fear in the land. I also liked that the book included magic, but not in its plain terms. There were soldiers of magic, which made it stand out to me the more.

I have no dislikes for this book, as it is well written and well developed despite being the first book in the series. It has set a perfect landing pad for the rest of the series to come. The book is also well edited, and I found no errors while reading. For these reasons, I rate it five out of five stars, and I recommend it to lovers of fantasy and adventure.
