Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
In life, some people are simply luckier than others, and so is Galen Bray. Galen is lucky in We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz. We follow Galen Bray in his escape from the war-destroyed land of the princes. He travelled to Magnum Caelum, a city in Voulhire, and inherited his uncle's wealth and fortune, including his steel forge. Upon arriving in Voulhire, he meets his uncle's executor, Rowan, who helps him learn the business and also to adapt and learn the ways of Voulhire.
This story begins to unfold beautifully as several other characters, including King Wilhelm and Meldorath, the magician who organised a coup to take over Hillport and is one of the most feared figures in Voulhire, come into the picture. Meldorath was imprisoned by the neutral and expansionist Voilhirian monarch, Wilhelm Arcolo, who replaced him with a former judge by the name of Lord Eldus. Voulhire ordinarily looks like a normal, peaceful, and prosperous nation, but deep down, it harbours very dark secrets. With the revelation of each secret, the tension increases, and the plot thickens.
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies offers readers a rich and immersive fantasy experience. Undoubtedly, one of the book's major advantages is the fully developed world of Voulhire. The author, Matthew Tysz, did a marvellous job in constructing a fantasy world known as Voulhire, with its governing laws, political system, and magical rules. It is to such a depth that it makes the reader fully engaged with the characters and world in which the story is set.
Another factor of the book worthy of commendation is its polyvocal pattern of narration. Through various characters’ perspectives, especially Galen and Lord Eldus, the reader gets the best perspectives of Voulhire. Further, a very good job is done in charting out the character development. The characters are quite realistic and complex; they have their own motivations, faults, and progressive changes during the course of the story.
Most interestingly, there is not a single thing I disliked about the book. The book is free of grammatical errors. I rate We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies: 5 out of 5 stars. We Are Voulhire is a perfect fit for lovers of fantasy. Some scenes of violence in the book make it suitable for a mature and insensitive audience.
