In We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, Matthew Tysz masterfully weaves a tale of intrigue, ambition, and corruption against the backdrop of a richly diverse kingdom. Voulhire, with its multiple regions, each having its own unique character and traditions, serves as the canvas for a vivid portrait of power struggles and political machinations. Tysz invites readers to explore the intricate web of forces shaping the kingdom, revealing the complex interplay of influence and authority that defines Voulhire’s world. King Wilhelm’s visionary leadership has propelled Vienna to the pinnacle of social and economic advancement, but shadows of unrest and discontent threaten this era of peace and prosperity. As the kingdom teeters on the brink of turmoil, Galen escapes the war-torn Lands of the Princes, a place ravaged by strife and hunger. Seeking refuge in Magnum Caelum, he aims to start anew by claiming his uncle’s inheritance and forging a fresh path, free from the troubles of his past.

Rowan’s warm and witty personality, along with his compassionate nature, makes him a truly endearing character. His unwavering loyalty and wise advice as Galen’s confidant and friend are real highlights of the story. The author’s masterful storytelling creates a dark and ominous aura around Lord Meldorath, leaving a lasting sense of unease. The expertly crafted narrative unfolds with urgency, pulling the reader forward with each page. The detailed map helps guide the protagonists’ journey to Voulhire City, while the comprehensive glossary adds clarity to the world-building.

I was completely captivated by this book and couldn’t find any flaws or drawbacks. The writing was polished and error-free, showing the author’s meticulous editing. I wholeheartedly give this book 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to fans of science fiction, mature young adult readers, and anyone who loves fantasy. The engaging narrative and masterful storytelling make it a must-read for anyone who craves immersive and thought-provoking fiction.
