Galen Bray, originally from the troubled Lands of the Princes, escaped to the bustling kingdom of Voulhire. He sought refuge in the charming town of Magnum Caelum, where his uncle had made a name for himself as a blacksmith. Voulhire, in its golden age, was a marvel of economic and structural progress.

In We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, Matthew Tysz kicks off with an exciting blend of science fiction, fantasy, adventure, and drama. The expertly woven third-person narrative smoothly shifts between characters, creating a nuanced and immersive experience. A beautifully drawn map at the beginning of the book invites readers into the enchanting world of Voulhire, setting the stage for an unforgettable journey.

The way the author handled the complex narrative was truly delightful. He brought a diverse cast of characters to life with such subtlety. The world-building was phenomenal, creating a richly detailed setting that completely drew me in. I also loved how they thoughtfully incorporated historical elements, adding an authentic touch to the story. Plus, the intricate social politics added a sophisticated layer to the narrative, making me excited to see how these dynamics will evolve throughout the series.

While I understood the need to set up the characters and settings in the first book, I found the initial chapters painfully slow. The buildup, though necessary, often felt endless with not much happening. Thankfully, the story picked up around the midpoint and became much more engaging.

I’m excited to give We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. The minor imperfections were just tiny blips in an otherwise captivating story. If you love intricate world-building, diverse characters, and complex plotlines, this book is a real gem. Plus, the writing is polished and error-free, showing the care and professionalism that went into editing it.
