Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a compelling fantasy novel by Matthew Tysz. Set in the captivating land of Voulhire, the story is filled with political drama, magic, mystery, and crime. The book follows the journey of Galen Bray, a refugee who flees his war-torn country and settles in Voulhire. As a newcomer, he must adapt to this country's advanced and knowledgeable ways. The author's passion for fantasy inspires the novel, and it is rich in history and philosophical themes. Voulhire is portrayed as a place of wealth, culture, and powerful individuals who influence its leadership. Galen's desire to thrive in his new home creates a captivating storyline for this book.
The author starts this book with Galen's journey to Voulhire. 'The Old One' briefly introduces us to Magnum Caelum, Yamon Soul, Virko, and Soulhire. The book begins slowly, with random introductions of characters that may initially be confusing. You will meet well-crafted characters from the prologue who promise action and suspense. Voulhire's leadership is troubled by hidden secrets, conspiracy, and domineering individuals whose intentions are unclear. While Lord Orlin and Lord Meldorath manage to gain King Wilhelm's trust, the accusations against them will send chills down your spine. Meanwhile, Lord Eldus is determined to change and heal Voulhire from its past traumas. However, someone out there seeks revenge, triggering a deadly confrontation.
My favorite character in this book is Galen Onita. Despite Onita's tragic life, he strived to improve his nephew's life. I admire his hard work, good reputation, kindness, and preparedness. I also appreciate Rowan's efforts to fulfill Onita's wishes and introduce Galen to the ways of Voulhire. The author's vivid descriptions and imagery make the reader feel like they are witnessing the events in this book firsthand. The conversation between Lord Eldus and Stanley Batherus moved me to tears. Although the book was quite lengthy, the author provided enough details at the beginning to familiarize me with the characters, places, and events that continued throughout the story.
The editing team did well; I encountered zero errors while reading. I dislike nothing about this book to deny it a perfect rating. I rate this book five out of five stars because it is captivating and insightful. I recommend it to lovers of fiction novels.
