In the book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz, the people of Voulhire had enjoyed peace and prosperity under the leadership of King Wilhem for over twenty-five years. Still, now it seemed trouble was lurking on the horizon as rumors spread that there’s a possibility that Meldorath, a strong mage who is supposed dead, might still be alive—this and the rise of a notorious group called Riva Rohavi, terrorizing the kingdom. The newly appointed Lord of Hillport, Lord Eldus, tries to salvage the reputation of the city of Hillport and reassure its citizens that all is well and that things will move forward now, regardless of the troubles they have experienced in the hands of the last two Lords that presided over the city. While Galen, a young twenty-eight-year-old boy from one of the prince’s islands, journeys to Magnum Caelum, a town in Voulhire, rumors still spread that the self-proclaimed Lord of Hillport, Lord Meldorath, was still alive and not dead as claimed by the king.

Galen came from the lands of the princes to Voulhire, escaping death and starvation, without hope but only a piece of paper in hand, which said something simple but powerful as the simple words “citizen of Voulhire” saved his life, a paper that had been the doing of his uncle who lived in Voulhire his whole life and without an heir has now invited Galen to come to Voulhire and become his sole heir, and therefore inherit all that he has. Not knowing what the future holds for him nor what to expect, he knew the unknown was better than the war-torn homeland he was coming from. This young man takes us on a journey into Voulhire, as we see other events in various cities of Voulhire, which makes this book very interesting.

My favorite part of this book is when Galen presents a piece of paper to the captain that makes all the difference. I also liked the show of power as the captain, with his silver axe, and his team, with arrows, took down the five men who had been chasing Galen; it was a thrilling scene. I also liked it when Captain Barcaedi created a show of magic using the mages on Lorcia‘s island just to show Lord Eldus that mages and magic well surrounded the island.

I recommend this book to adults who love fantasy stories and adventures; it teaches many lessons. Teenagers may also read it since the sexual content is relatively mild. I’m rating this book 5 out of 5 stars because I disliked nothing about it, and it was well-written and exceptionally well-edited.
