Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
"We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz tells the story of Galen Bray, who, when the opportunity presented itself, escaped the troubled land and traveled to Voulhire. He met a man standing between him and a ship at a dock. The captain refused to help him, but when Galen Bray gave him a written paper, the captain realized he was his problem, as Galen Bray's uncle had paid the captain to look for him and to give him his inheritance because he was going to die possibly before Galen Bray arrived.
Galen Bray settled in Voulhire, his uncle's place, and was guided by Rowan, his uncle's executor. The story captured aspects of leadership in Hillport, where Lord Orlin was killed and Lord Meldorath, who had magical powers, took lordship. Meldorath later was reported dead, yet the circumstances were unclear. King Wilhelm appointed Lord Eldus to take charge of Hillport, and Lord Eldus went to live at the castle where Lord Meldorath had lived. Lord Eldus asked Beverly to help him with Lord Meldorath's belongings, which may be helpful in his mission because there was suspicion about Lord Meldorath's death. Lord Eldus's son, Marshus, began having dreams of bleeding women screaming, and later on, Lord Eldus's daughter Isla and Lord Eldus himself. Do you want to know the reasons behind these dreams? Was Lord Meldorath dead? Get a copy to read and uncover the truth.
The story weaves together themes such as leadership, religion, loss and grief, resilience, and magic realism. I enjoyed the well-developed narrative and the ever-evolving characters in the book, like Galen Bray and Rowan. This book was a page-turner with a gripping plot, a suspenseful story that keeps you engaged and reading it for hours without noticing how time moved fast. Its ability to evoke the reader's emotions is amazing and noteworthy.
I found nothing to dislike about this engaging story as well as the book because I enjoyed every bit of it. I give this book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars because of its thoughtful and informative story, remarkable dialogue, well-rounded characters, and a satisfying ending. The book was also professionally edited because I found no typos or grammatical errors.
I recommend this book to readers who love stories with a blend of magic realism and leadership conflicts and consequences. I prefer it to be read by adults because the book contains slurs.
