[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "A New War" by Alexander Farah.]
In “A New War” by Alexander Farah, the author tries to unravel the complexities of political unrest and the impending threat posed by an army of the dead, all set against the mysterious backdrop of the Naataros kingdom. Ahmid and Salal, two young soldiers, were sent to look into the strange happening that had been reported in the Snowy Mountains outside of Alhayit, a massive, impenetrable wall built to fend off the army of the dead. On the mission, Ahmid dies, leaving Salal behind. Can Salal get it through it by herself? To learn more, continue reading.
The language used in this book is so basic that readers won't hesitate to continue reading and won’t need to grab a dictionary often. However, as the narrative progresses and the threads of the army of the dead begin to unravel, it will be without doubt that readers will be absorbed into the thickness of the narrative. One of the most striking aspects of this author's talent is his capability of great emotional conveyance. Because of the way the author expressed the characters emotions, readers can relate to these characters. The incorporation of superstition into the story in order to create suspense and dimension is one element that I find particularly appealing.
All aspects of this book are greatly appreciated. The story vividly describes the emotional attachment to gatherings by focusing on the importance of friendship. It has allowed me to respect soldiers more for what they have to go through in order to protect civilians. The intricacies of the plot include an unending change of angles or the reverse in the actions. That doesn't mean I still didn't love the book, but for more sensitive readers, it should be noted that the novel has its bloody and brutal scenes. The book is well edited; I didn’t find any errors. I give this book a 5 out of 5 star rating. Adventure, suspense, and action fans should read it, in my opinion.
