Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in the Voulhire series. It tells the story of Galen, who escapes from his war-torn homeland, the Lands of Princes, to find a new life in Voulhire. Galen arrives in the town of Magnum Caelum after inheriting his late uncle's blacksmith shop. He is excited about starting fresh but soon realizes that Voulhire, a beautiful and prosperous kingdom, is also filled with dark secrets and mysteries. The story also introduces powerful characters like Lord Meldorath, who was once a powerful mage but is now a threat to the kingdom after imprisonment for his dangerous magical practices.
Galen encounters new people as he attempts to adjust to his new life, including Rowan, who assists him in managing the blacksmith shop. However, things are not as quiet as they appear. In the background are threats such as the violent gang, who aim to destroy Voulhire, and suspicions that Meldorath may not be completely gone. There is a lot of suspense and anxiety in the book, leaving me wondering what will happen next. The kingdom is facing difficulties that could jeopardize its stability and wealth while Galen works to repair his life. With its mystical aspects and political conflicts, the author creates an intriguing and captivating universe for the reader to follow.
I enjoyed how Matthew Tysz, the author, developed the Voulhire universe. I had no trouble picturing the characters, the magic, or the cities, thanks to the descriptions. Additionally, the characters have a lot of depth. Galen's path from being a refugee to attempting to start again was very well-portrayed, in my opinion. Because he is compassionate, industrious, and driven to succeed in his new life, it was simple to relate to him. The magical elements of the narrative, particularly the mystery surrounding Meldorath, really appealed to me. I was able to understand the many locations and phrases used thanks to the glossary and map supplied in the book.
I didn't find anything objectionable in this book. It moved along at a good clip and kept my interest throughout. Because of the way the tale developed, I never got bored. I relished every second of it.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. There were no mistakes, and it was well-edited. This book is ideal for those who enjoy delving into fantastical narratives and discovering new realms. Young adults or older readers who like fiction with magic and political intrigue would also love it. The upcoming book in the series excites me to read it!
