Imagine a world filled with magic, hope, and chaos-where good struggles to overcome evil. It's a story of dark, mysterious forces and honest souls fighting to survive amidst calamity. We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a brilliant attempt at creating a fictional world brimming with suspense, mystery, and drama. This book will transport you into its universe as you try to understand what each character is experiencing. You'll find yourself trying to understand what's motivating each of them to act as they do.

The book consists of chapters that shift between the perspectives of different characters. It is set in Voulhire, a beautiful land haunted by dark secrets. Galen, one of the main protagonists, is an emerging underdog whom readers will easily root for. His struggles and potential rise to great power keep the audience on his side. But the book is not just about Galen. Meldorath, a dark and looming presence throughout the story, manipulates and haunts others, confirming his role as the evil force at play. Lord Eldus, the compassionate new lord of Hillport, rises to power after Meldorath’s departure, yet he is continuously burdened and tormented by the mysteries of the past.

I really liked the book. The world-building is incredibly detailed and made me feel like I was seeing everything unfold before my eyes. There are so many intriguing storylines and characters. I particularly appreciated side characters like Charlotte, who is striving to right the wrongs of people who have been oppressed for years. Her actions gave me a small glimmer of hope. Meldorath, being a complex and mysterious character beyond imagination, held my undivided attention. It’s unclear what drives him throughout most of the book, which only makes him more compelling.

There was nothing I disliked about the book. Rowan is one of the most easily likable characters, thanks to his jovial nature. The author also introduces a group of revolutionaries called the Riva Rohavi, who seek to destroy the prosperous land of Voulhire by any means necessary to bring about a new order. As the story progresses, political unrest and hidden agendas come to light. I rate this book five out of five stars.

I highly recommend this book to fantasy lovers who enjoy immersive world-building and mysterious characters. However, as this is the first book in a series, readers should not expect a conclusive ending. Fortunately, they can always continue with the next installment.
