Searching for a sci-fi novel with a blend of magic, politics, love, and adventure? Here's We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz. The story is largely centred on Galen Bray, the protagonist. Galen is a young man who comes from the Land of Princes, a country under turmoil. The country has been ravaged by the 24-year-old war, leading to enormous hardship and starvation. Having escaped by the whiskers from the Land of Princes in a warship, he arrives at Magnum Caelum, where he meets Rowan, his uncle's executor. Rowan, although a stranger, helps Galen navigate Magnum Caelum and puts him through the process of running his uncle's forge steel business. On the other hand, there are several other characters, including King Wilhelm, Eldus Alderman, and Midius Maido, who are in a power tussle. Eldus Alderman is the new Lord of Hillport, who struggles daily to assure his people that he's different from his predecessors and protect them from the Riva Rohavi, a terrorist group. King Wilhem faces opposition from Midius Maido and is scared of dethronement, so he must do all he can to remain in power.

This book is set in the magical world of Voulhire. The constant power tussle among the various leaders is what I enjoyed most about the book. Then there's the emotional chemistry between Galen and Beth. Why is Beth so special to Galen? I commend the author's creativity and ability to bring to life this imaginary world and its inhabitants. The characters are well developed and their roles vividly described. The map at the beginning of the book makes it easy to visualise this world of Voulhire. In summary, the following themes are explored in this book: survival, friendship, loyalty, power, and magic.

I rate this book five out of five stars. I didn't find any grammatical or typographical errors in the book, indicating that it was well edited. I found nothing to dislike about the book; the character development, vivid description of events, and use of simple language by Matthew Tysz made the book worth reading. For these reasons, the book deserves a perfect rating. I recommend We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies to lovers of adventure-based novels, fantasy, and sci-fi.
