We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz starts with a mysterious man named Meldorath, who has strong magical powers. At first, he is a respected magistrate, but after accusing Lord Orlin of terrible crimes against children, he becomes the new Lord of Hillport. However, three months later, Meldorath is arrested by the king’s orders because of his dangerous use of magic. The story then shifts to Galen, a young man from a war-torn place called the Lands of the Princes. Galen travels to Voulhire to begin a new life.

As Galen adjusts to his new life, the kingdom of Voulhire is dealing with bigger problems. Lord Meldorath’s dark magic still threatens the kingdom even though he has been exiled. Meanwhile, the rulers of Voulhire are trying to keep peace in the land, but there are enemies both inside and outside the kingdom. Galen is not aware of these dangers at first, but as he learns more about his new home, he realizes that Voulhire is not as peaceful as it seems. Magic, politics, and secrets fill the kingdom, which makes it an exciting but dangerous place to be.

I like many aspects of this book. One of them is the author’s vivid storytelling. The author’s world-class depiction of Voulhire made it feel real. The world-building is very detailed, and you can imagine the towns, the cities, and the magical elements very clearly. Whether it’s the quiet town of Magnum Caelum or the busy capital of Soulhire, each part of Voulhire feels like it has its own personality. Also, the magic system is mysterious and makes the story even more exciting. I enjoyed the author's storytelling—not a very simple diction but a wonderful one that perfectly conveys the narrative.

The well-developed characters are another aspect of this book that I enjoy. I easily relate to the characters. I enjoyed Galen’s character and his journey. He’s not a hero right from the start. Instead, he is just a regular guy trying to figure out his new life. The way he learns about his uncle’s past and the kingdom’s dangers makes him grow as a person, and that’s really nice to know. Also, it's imperative that I add that the storyline is very engaging. From the very first sentence in the prologue, I already got keen. There is no aspect of this book that I dislike. While reading this book, I noticed only a few errors, which shows that it was professionally edited.

For the reasons that I have already mentioned above, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy fantasy books with a mix of adventure, mystery, and magic.
