Galen Bray wants to escape the war-ravaged Land of the Princes. Finding that he is an heir to his late great-uncle's property in the far kingdom, Voulhire, he boards a refugee ship, which is taking its occupants to their new home.

Voulhire, an advanced kingdom tracing its history more than 2000 years back, is celebrating its entry into the golden age. The story starts with mage Meldorath, previously King Wilhelm Arcolo's favorite general and one of his closest friends, forcibly entering the castle of Hillport and usurping Lord Orlin using his extraordinary magical powers and becoming the Lord himself. But when his illicit use of magic to experiment on people is discovered, he is sent by the king to be imprisoned on Lorcia's island. But nothing is as simple as it seems. Newly appointed Lord of Hillport, Eldus Alderman finds Orlin's journal and Meldorath's notes to get to the bottom of this, which creates more mystery than it answers. His plans of bringing prosperity to the poorer southern coast are riddled with challenges, especially from Riva Rohavi, a rebellion group.

Would it be easy to guard the most powerful and feared magician, or is being captured just a part of his plan? What would Lord Eldus do when he discovers the possible existence of a parallel magical cosmos, Caromentis, where far more magically powerful beings reside?

In We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, an introductory first book in a series, I liked the approach of Matthew Tysz to not just introduce readers to the fascinating world of Voulhire and its amazing characters but also give a thrilling and magical mystery. From the perspective of Galen, who came to Voulhire for the first time, readers can get a fresh look at what Voulhire is, its magic, and explore various places on his adventure.

I simply loved the book because of its very well-developed story as well as its characters. From the first sentence itself, the excitement starts. The writing style is beautiful, fast-paced, and vivid, so you can clearly visualize the story. I did not notice any grammatical or typographical errors, ensuring a smooth reading for readers.

Also, I did not find any area of the book needing improvement and can't wait to read the next book in the series! So I rate a must-read We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to everyone, aged 16 or above, who enjoys fantasy and adventure books.
