The Summerland by Mattian Elias is a story set on Earth in the year 2041. A strange object has crashed into the ocean and caused massive waves of disruption and chaos, eliminating major coastal cities and killing thousands. A team put together by the United Coalition of Sovereign Nations embarks on a journey to explore what may be a potential alien spacecraft and discover the secrets that hide within it.

This book is incredible! The author tells an incredibly thrilling story that kept me intrigued with each turn of a page. What I particularly enjoyed about this book was the humor that was expertly weaved into the dialogue. Especially with the sentient AI program Athena, the author does an excellent job of retaining an air of lighthearted humor while maintaining the overall seriousness of the crisis that lay before the team. It was clear to see that the characters had strong relationships with one another that did not solely revolve around the plot of the story, and this provided greater depth and relatability to the many characters that were introduced throughout the book. I also thoroughly enjoyed how diverse this book was. Many of the characters were from various countries around the world, and this element of diversity adds an extra touch of realism to the story itself.

One thing that did surprise me was the similarity of this book to a popular science fiction podcast that tells the tale of a similar disaster that strikes the world after a new island appears out of nowhere in the Pacific Ocean. While the similarities between The Summerland and the podcast end there, it was refreshing to see a new perspective on a plotline like this that focuses not on the survivors or the civilian heroes but instead on the governmental and more scientific perspective.

Overall, I rate this book a 5 out of 5 as the story eloquently portrayed an amazing concept, and there were no grammatical errors found throughout the book. There was truly nothing that I disliked about this book. There are instances of profanity and some sexual content within the book. I would recommend this book for all science fiction enthusiasts who enjoy a thrilling story!
