Join Thoral Mighty Fist, his fishy companion Brad and his mighty steed Warlordhorse as they journey through the land of Grome to kill the bad guys and possibly save the world. Known throughout the land as the Fist Wielder, Thoral and company show just how important it is to listen to your friends and stick together despite the odds. This is a hilarious journey that will leave you gasping for breath and holding your sides.
Read as Thoral rescues the brave Elf, Princess Nalweegie from the clutches of foul sorcerer Necrogrond and the Dark Brotherhood. Be amazed at the hilarious names for many of Grome’s inhabitants, such as the lad named Tofu. What does Thoral want to drown with alcohol from his memories? Well, that’s for one to discover through reading!
I loved the entire book. There are so many references to authors of fantasy work in this amazing read. Comparing J.R.R.R (Jim) Hardison’s Fish Wielder to other great authors is a mistake. He is, without a doubt, an author with no equal. There is a lot of times where the wording itself is clear that the narrator of this story knows of the fourth wall and oftentimes will break it for a tongue-in-cheek joke that, if missed, could sail over a person’s head. Fully engaging, this book gives more time and devotion to showing the repeated decline into drinking for Thoral and the impact it has on his friend, Brad.
Though not a person to be negative about a book, I cannot help but find only one flaw. The book ended! I am eager to see more of the world of Grome and all its fantastic inhabitants. It is no doubt that one hopes for more books about Thoral and Brad as they travel. Any time a book like this comes along, give it a read. Give it more than one! Who knows how many secrets and references lie within the pages that can be missed on a single read-through. I recommend this for all fans of the fantasy genre and those that have read the works of Piers Anthony. Welcome to a Xanth that is definitely not Xanth!
Because I couldn’t find any spelling or grammar mistakes, which is a true first for me, I give Fish Wielder by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison four out of four stars. I hope this book is just the beginning for Thoral and crew, because I really enjoyed it and think others will too!
