Sebatian and the Invisible Island by Michael William Hogan is an adventure story designed for younger readers but appeals to everyone who loves adventure with science fiction and mystery.

Sebastian is traveling with his parents aboard the family boat, the Miss American Pie. As an 11-year-old boy, he loves to fish and does every chance he gets. One morning, he wakes up before his parents and travels on a dinghy to a nearby island. He gets distracted while fishing and doesn't notice a storm heading for them. While Sebastian is fishing, his father, Cameron, wakes up and gets the vessel underway to avoid as much of the storm as possible without knowing that Sebastian is not on board. When Sebastian tries to return to the boat, he realizes he has lost his way and is lost at sea. After floating in the ocean for a few days, he ends up on an island with strange inhabitants. His parents realize after traveling a distance that Sebastian is gone. They turn around as the storm bears down to sail back to the island to find Sebastian and crash on the shore.

This book is a wonderful story involving a curious and courageous boy. There are exceptional details in the book, which fully engage the reader in the story. It covers the resiliency and intelligence children obtain when allowed to explore. The parents taught survival skills every child should learn if traveling in an extreme environment, like the open ocean. There is humor, along with drama and excitement, which makes the story well-rounded and enjoyable. Once on the island, Sebastian even has a taste of the mysterious extraterrestrials, ancient creatures, and Amelia Earheart.

I love how the book incorporated many elements to make this story exciting. It is an excellent book for older children and adults. I only say older children because of the few scary details in the story, i.e., aliens and skeletal remains. The book is expertly edited, which enables seamless reading without distraction from errors. The characters are memorable and engaging.

I am rating Sebastian and the Invisible Island 5 out of 5 stars for the above reasons. It is a wonderfully engaging book that I highly recommend.
