In the Heart of the Linden Wood is a tale of loss, heartache, and woe, but it is also a story of redemption, forgiveness, and joy.

The main character, King Christopher, loses someone very dear to him within the first few chapters of the book. To anyone who has lost a loved one, I'm sure we have all wondered, just like Christopher, “How can I go on without them?” And then to realize that all we have left of them are our memories. What a sad, lonely start, but truthful nonetheless.

As we learn more of the king— his lonely childhood, the death of his self-centered father, meeting his wife, and seeing the joy radiate from him as he learns how to love because of her— we begin to understand what kind of person King Christopher longs to be.

Another main character we meet is a healer named Geraldine, who is tasked with an important job. But, when things don't go as planned, she loses that lifelong career that seems to define who she is. Cast out of the castle and forced to go back to her small town, we learn Geraldine’s perspective on love. In the beginning, it's always easier to stay positive and full of hope. Eager and wanting to be loved and have a life. But, with time, reality paints a harsh color on the canvas of supposed “true love.” Responsibilities become the main concern, and love slowly dies.

In the Heart of the Linden Wood pulls the reader along for a tale about a mystical wood that makes up the heart of the town of Linden. A quest to find a magical object pulls four people together—the king, his guardsman, Geraldine, and her son, who, towards the end of the book, realize that they make a great team.

This book is very much a book I would read in my free time that I sometimes forgot I was supposed to be looking for errors and critiquing the words and story. I was drawn in so deep that I lost any other purpose than to understand the emotions the characters exhibited. From what I did not find, the author of this book, Ekta R. Garg, had a professional editor, as there were hardly any errors. The rating I would give this book would be a 5 out of 5 because I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and had no issues with the plot, language, editing, etc. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good fantasy-based story.
