The Strange Land by Jennifer Mugrage is a powerful story set in a world after the Tower of Babel, where people speak different languages and must find new ways to survive. The book follows a small tribe called “The People” and mainly revolves around Ikash, who grows up in a difficult home but manages to stay strong and kind.

The story shows how the tribe travels through wild lands, faces many dangers, and tries to keep the traditions alive. One of the most emotional parts was when Sari, Ikash’s mother, suffered from abuse and took her own life; it was a painful moment. I cried while reading it, and it shows how serious and real the author made the story feel.

I like the character of Zillah, the grandmother who protects her family and gives good advice. I also liked Ikash’s character because even after living in a toxic environment, he chose a better path and became a shaman.

One thing that I genuinely loved about this book was the beautiful description of nature and daily life, which helped me imagine everything clearly. At times the focus on rituals and hunting was a bit too detailed and slowed down the story, but it didn’t ruin the overall experience for me. The book is well edited, and I found no noticeable grammar or spelling mistakes, and the best part is, I didn’t find any negative aspects in this book.

In conclusion, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It’s perfect for people who enjoy stories about survival, family, and history with a touch of spiritual reflection. In my opinion, this book is a valuable addition to any reader’s library.
