Book 1 of The Legends of Baelon
The author takes you to another time, another place, which is gripping and heart-wrenching from the first few pages. The storyline is suspenseful, filled with kings, queens, rulers, good guys, and bad guys. It takes place in a land known as Baelon, where revenge is a main theme throughout the story. There are many murders along the road of revenge. Rolft, one of the main characters, is out to avenge the death of his queen. At many times in the story, no one knew who to trust.
With their descriptive writing, the author is able to give the reader an intimate view into the scenes and surroundings, the daily lives and characteristics of each character, and their possible motives. The author gives us a clear picture you can see in your head as you are taken through each scene.
I enjoyed reading this book, and it kept me reading and wanting to find out what happened next. I liked the development of the plot and the many twists and turns. The reader will find an unexpected ending to this story. The only thing I didn't like was the way the story went back and forth between characters and scenes. The author did offer a hard stop in between, but I still felt some confusion at times. It was also a bit difficult to distinguish some of the grammar, as it was being spoken from the land of Baelon.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a suspenseful, action "whodunit" storyline. If you have any trouble with fighting, bloody death scenes, or bad language, then this isn't your book.
I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The only reason I took off a star is because it was sometimes hard to follow the characters and the language. There were many characters in different places throughout the story. Otherwise, it was a very good book, and others may not stumble. At times, it was hard to discern any typos, since the book was written with a Baelon essence. But the book was well edited, and I found no typos.
The ending will leave you wanting more, which is exactly what the author plans to do with their second book in The Legends of Baelon series, Two Crowns, Three Blades. I'm sure the second book will be as good as the first. I will seek out the second book to see where the story goes.
