The North Factor by Ben Schneider is the second book in the trilogy Chrome Mountain Saga. It is a fast-paced crime thriller featuring the story of a female biker. Sonya had made some bad decisions in her early life and landed herself with the leader of a dangerous bikers’ gang as her boyfriend. Unable to endure her abusive boyfriend’s violence, she escaped and helped the FBI destroy the gang with her information. She was now a completely different woman—a fighter capable of defending herself. The book begins three months after her marriage to Trey when she is kidnapped on her way to meet her friend Becky. She was taken to a corrupt mental asylum where she befriended and saved Judy from torture, rape, and a slow death. Judy’s all-women biker club rescued them and let Sonya join them as an honored member for saving Judy. Sonya had no idea about the identity of her abductors or the reason behind her kidnapping. All she wanted was to meet Becky before she returned home to her husband. The story continues with her encounters with the goons, motorbike stunts, killings, and Sonya’s adventurous escape from captivity several times.

The author keeps the reader fascinated with his masterful storytelling by describing the fights, stunts, and gang wars between the biker gangs with precision and realistic details. Sonya’s fighting skills are remarkably impressive. The in-depth details of how the biker gangs operate, their hierarchy, and their different ideologies are captivating. There are criminal biker gangs for whom there is nothing above money. They are assassins who kill mercilessly without remorse or any respect for human life; even innocent bystanders or the elderly are not spared. Then there is Judy’s all-women bikers’ club, the Night Mares, a sisterhood helping the FBI as informants.

The author has portrayed Sonya as a strong-willed fighter who uses her physical strength, fighting skills, intellect, and presence of mind to survive almost impossible situations. All characters, including the criminals as insignificant as guards and minions, are crafted well. The fighting skills of the female characters exceed those of the men, and that feels refreshing. The book is overwhelming with its action-packed high drama and the author’s writing skills. Female characters are dominant, and only towards the end does the author focus on Terry’s character and his background. Although a sequel, it can be fully enjoyed as a standalone book. I did not find anything to dislike about the book, and I find no reason to rate it anything less than perfect. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars.

However, this is not a book for all. In addition to accidents, stabbings, shootings, and bombings, there are moderately disturbing scenes of torture and narration alluding to more brutality. It is suitable for mature readers only. I would recommend it to readers who do not mind such mature content and are ready to invest time and money in the complete set of books.
