Review of Sebastian and the Invisible Island
Today, I am reviewing the book Sebastian and the Invisible Island, 2nd edition, by Michael William Hogan.
I found this story to be a wonderfully written sci-fi tale about a very intelligent and adventurous eleven-year-old boy named Sebastian, who loves sunrises and fishing and is sailing around the world with his parents on their sailing yacht named Miss American Pie.
It begins with the family anchored in the Pacific Ocean near a small island for an overnight layover. In the morning, they are to set sail, and Sebastian awakens earlier than his parents so he can take the dinghy and fish near the island and watch the sunrise before they leave. A sudden, huge storm blows in quickly. Not knowing their son is away from the boat, Sebastian's parents set sail to try to avoid the storm, and Sebastian finds himself separated from his parents and tossed about the ocean in his small dinghy. When the storm fades, Sebastian sees an island. As he heads towards it, it disappears again. When Sebastian gets closer, he winds up wrecking his dinghy on the coral reef and swims to the mysterious island. Afraid, lost, and alone, he finds himself trapped on the island but finds out he isn't alone. There are aliens from different planets who are at war with each other, and they have both crashed onto the island. Sebastian has to use his wits, courage, and survival skills to find a way back home to his parents.
This was the 2nd edition of the book, and I found it to be edited exceptionally well, as I did not find any errors. The author did a fantastic job of keeping the adventure exciting, entertaining, and interesting enough to keep the reader's attention throughout the entire story. I loved how the author used very descriptive narration of every scene to make the reader feel as though they could see everything through Sebastian's eyes.
I enjoyed this book and did not find anything that I disliked about it, and I would recommend it to anyone from ten to adult, as I found it to be very entertaining.
I am rating this book a 5 out of 5 because of the exceptional editing and the author's ability to keep the story exciting from beginning to end.
