Fish Wielder by J.R.R.R. Hardison

Fish Wielder is a story set in the mystical world of Grome. Grome is a land of mythical creatures and human inhabitants too. Thoral Mighty Fist, a human living in Grome is unlike other men. His powerful build, chiseled features and his piercing violet eyes are not the only things that set him aside. He is tough, fearless and very strong. The extraordinary strength of his fists earned him the name Fist Wielder.

When Thoral is not getting drunk on warm ale, he’s out on adventures looking at trees, seeking treasure and fighting bad guys or creatures. The bad religion is out to get him from the onset of the book. On one of Thoral’s adventures he encounters an evil sorcerer who he kills and frees the elf he’d imprisoned. He learns of the bad religion’s plans among them how they want to eliminate the elves.

He courageously takes on a new quest to find the bad religion’s hideout and destroy them. With his magical sword Blurmflard and the company of his friend Bradfast, a talking koi fish and his steed, Warlordhorse he takes on his new mission. His quest is hard and full of near to death experiences.

I can’t remember the last time a book had me laughing out loud. The parody used by the author in the book is incredibly hilarious. This however does not undermine the fantasy aspect of the book. The level of detail the author uses in his descriptions is great. The author helps the reader clearly and easily form mental pictures with his description.

Thoral Mighty Fist, the main character in the book is not your average hero. The author worked in building his character. He stands out not only by his looks and bravery but also by his outlandish accent described and his inability to find the right word for something. What’s a fantasy without a little romance to spice it up? The hero finds love when he least expects it.

The ending of the book is characterized by dramatic twists and unexpected turn of events which I found completely fascinating and well thought out. It was totally in sync with the rest of the book.

I seriously can’t wait for the sequel to be out. I’ll be reading the author’s other novels as I really loved his style of writing. I’m sure many readers will love the book as much as I did. Fantasy enthusiasts will go crazy over this book. I wouldn’t recommend it to kids as some may find it a bit gory and the grammar is a bit advanced.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book checked all the boxes for me. It’s funny and a page turner. Other than the many battles that are in the book there’s a brewing romance that will take your mind of all the seriousness.
