When I picked this for review, I couldn't believe that I had found a book that gathered absolutely all my favorite things in the world in just 398 pages: science fiction (especially space traveling and interplanetary species) conspiracy theories, environmental awareness, but most important of all, fundamentals of science.
I immediately loved the concept, but I was a little bit skeptic on how accurate the scientific facts would be. Needless to say, every ounce of skepticism evaporated as soon as I read his credentials, because the writer, Arturo Rajas is as scientifically literate as a person can get in one lifetime. He is the proud holder of four engineering degrees (two chemical engineering and two civil engineering with specialization in environmental engineering) And he has over thirty-five years of professional experience on these fields. Needless to say, it's more than Impressive.
In the world he created, the aliens are seen as 'the teachers', since they assisted the progress on most of the major land masses of the planet and their civilizations (such as the Egyptians, Hindi, Mays, Incas, and so on). It's remarkable how he managed to explain through science fiction how our society was structured and how it evolved throughout time.
Every chapter is narrated by a different character, that way you get to see all the points of view on the storyline, and get to know all the characters on a personal level. The author included a small list of cadmium poisoning facts at the end of every chapter, which were extremely informative, and he makes clear throughout the entire book how important cadmium poison awareness is and how it affects every single one of us.
My favorite chapter would have to be chapter 9. On that chapter, he explains human behavior from the point of view of the aliens, and in my opinion, it was one of the best parts of the entire book. It really made me think about things that are embedded on our culture and we never question. All the things that we take as established. It talks about the general characteristics of human individuals nowadays, and how that's affecting our evolutionary process as a whole.
I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars without a doubt, and if you like science fiction and the items mentioned above, it's an extremely engaging book. You will be taken for a wild ride on the land of space and conspiracies, and you will enjoy every minute of reading this.
Who knows, at the end of reading it you might find yourself with a new perspective on how we perceive our society.
