Heaven and Earth by Arturo Riojas follows the story of four intelligent and morally right earthlings who had an eye-opening experience with an alien life-form called the Treretumians. These four earthlings include Olga, a health-conscious aeronautical engineering, Gavilán, Olga’s love interest, and Sam and Billy Ruben, who are both working for the CDC. The group was contacted by Nivla, a Treretumian, in order to enlist their help in recovering his brother’s deceased body. In exchange for the help given by the earthlings, Nivla gave profound insights into the origin of the universe and technologies that would greatly benefit the earthlings.

The book is suited for people of all ages. No profane words are used and there is only minimal violence. Moral lessons and intelligent sayings can be read in every corner of the book. The author also gave simple explanations about complex details. Astronomy and political science are not easy topics to comprehend but the author found a way in order to make such concepts understandable to everyone. But not all concepts are simplified by the author. Many concepts remain difficult to comprehend that it will most likely be understood by earthlings who have a higher education level.

I appreciate the author’s fresh take on the relationship between earthlings and alien life forms. Most of the movies and books about these topics usually stay in the extremes. They either view the alien as a superior race who are destructive to the existence of earthlings or a good alien who unconditionally helps the earthlings. But this book neither views the alien as extremely bad nor good.

Various topics are tackled in the book including astronomy, health sciences and political science. It also does not forget to tackle topics important for our present society. One such topic being tackled was on how the persons in power manipulate the masses. This might seem like another one of those conspiracy theories that you rampantly read and hear everywhere like the Illuminati conspiracy theory. Nevertheless, I consider this as the best bit in the book since the explanation given in the book makes you think if the countries, organization or powerful earthlings are indeed employing these methods in order to control the masses and maintain power. The methods seem to be one of those tactics mentioned in Art of War.

Cadmium poisoning is also one of the topics tackled in the book and it can be the considered the most important one. It is good that the author emphasized it in order to raise awareness about the negatives effects of cadmium in earthlings and why it should be eradicated in our diet. But the overemphasis of the topic makes it sort of annoying. It reminds of a spam mail that I receive which contain the same messages.

Overall, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book is professionally edited with only very few typographical errors. I would highly recommend this book to family and friends since it is an enjoyable book that would not just fill one’s mind with science fiction stories but also with facts that is applicable in our present society. It is a book fit for the contemporary times where most earthlings are just being YOLO and not thinking about the importance of resolving problems in our society as soon as possible. It would leave a question in the reader’s mind, “Is our present society headed to the right track?”
