Superhighway is the first book in the Superhighway trilogy by Alex Fayman. It is about a man called Alexander Fine. Alex was left in the orphanage home a few hours after his birth. He dreamed of being adopted by good and kind parents. He soon gave up on his dream when he did not get adopted. Alex isolated himself from other orphanage children. He chose the company of books rather than that of the children at the orphanage. He was extremely intelligent in school and was loved by the orphanage’s administrator. Alex had the first glimpse of a computer and the internet at a young age, and he got genuinely curious. He worked very diligent in school and eventually he gained a scholarship to study in college.
Fate smiled at him when a couple of computers were donated to the orphanage. He was accidentally transported through the internet while browsing the web. He was transported to the location on the picture he was browsing earlier on which happened to be Hawaii. He landed safely in Hawaii, but with intense hunger. His journey to Hawaii signified the beginning of his adventures around the world. He discovered he could also manipulate anything on the internet by just thinking about it. Initially, Alex tried resisting the temptation of stealing from hard-working people. He utilized this skill to steal billions of dollars from drug lords, criminals, and corrupt banks. He was like a modern day Robin Hood. He stole from the rich and gave to the poor. He discovered some information about his parents and how his superpower came to be. Alex was advised not to go down the part of revenge. He was told to keep his head low to avoid being suspected by the governments or the criminal world.
Superhighway is a sci-fi/fantasy mixed with crime and suspense. The narration is told from the first person’s point of view. It is told from Alex’s, point of view. The author produced a comprehensive explanation of how Alex was transported through the internet, moving at the speed of light. It is admirable that Alex maintained good principles and he tried his best to stick to it. He was very benevolent and generous. There was a lesson that revenge never satisfies.
Nevertheless, I was unimpressed with the fact that Alex did not consider the consequences of most of his actions. These actions ended up hurting and putting innocent people in danger. I felt he was impulsive and a bit selfish at times. He repeatedly tried making amends for the erroneous decisions he made. He learned that not everything can be fixed with money. He learned to live with the consequence of his erroneous decisions by using marijuana and consuming alcohol.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book is properly organized, and it seems to be edited professionally. I found no error reading this book. The plot is very entertaining and enlightening. There is character development towards the end; Alex began reconsidering some of his actions. I would recommend it for those who like sci-fi/fantasy and crime genre. I would not recommend this book to young readers because it contains an extensive description of sex, drugs use and alcohol consumption.
