I believe that the creation of cyberspace is one of the important achievements in the world. How much can scientists achieve using the internet? This must have been the question in the mind of Alex Fayman when he wrote Superhighway.

The book consists of 46 chapters. Each chapter covers a specific event in the life of Alex, the main character of the book. He was raised in an orphanage. Alex is depicted as a teenage boy who has digital superpowers. He can travel through fiber optic cables to any destination in the world. He uses his ability to make several trips around the globe. The places that he visits include Hawaii, Amsterdam, Galicia, Miami, and Geneva. Using his superpowers, he was able to gain billions of US dollars by emptying the accounts of the world’s most powerful criminals. The money enabled him to become a philanthropist.

The author uses many characters to piece the story together. Ms. Jenkins, the administrator of the orphanage where Alex grew in, is a very influential figure. She acts as a mother to Alex. Thus, they developed a very strong bond. Alex meets several women in his life. They include Jenny, Anna, Eva, and Nicky. He seems to like all of them. He fell in love with Eva. However, their relationship did not last because he cheated on her with Nicky. Nicky has a twin brother, Justin. The twins have digital superpowers too. They met with Alex during one of his trips within the web. The twins introduced Alex to their grandfather, Dr. Wright. He is the father of “electroportation” i.e. transportation of human beings through fiber optic cables. Dr. Wright is a scientist who later tells Alex the story of his biological father, David Knox.

Superhighway is the best science fiction and fantasy book that I have ever read. The author has masterfully tailored the plot and the characters of the story to bring out a futuristic view of cyber technology. I also liked the flow of the story because each new chapter is a continuation of the previous one. This prevents the reader from going back and forth to capture the whole story. Additionally, the author managed to bring out themes such as politics, the trade of drugs and arms by top criminals, philanthropy, terrorism, and murder among others.

The book does not have many errors. I noted two errors. The only thing that I did not like about the book is the way Alex treats women. He is portrayed as a womanizer. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading the book. The last chapter of the book leaves many questions unanswered. I hope to read the next book in the series to find out more about Alex. Overall, I give it 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to anyone who loves science fiction and fantasy books.

Alex is an arrogant jerk. The way he treats women is just the tip of that ice berg. I had trouble with this book because I saw Alex as a completely unsympathetic hero. But it's interesting to read reviews from people who may have thought otherwise.

Great review! :tiphat:

You sold me I want to read it! A lot of it sounded great but especially your comments "He was raised in an orphanage. Alex is depicted as a teenage boy who has digital superpowers." and "the best science fiction and fantasy book that I have ever read."

I like that Alex has the ability to travel to other countries through the internet cables. He chooses to live a very dangerous life by stealing from criminals! He is like a modern day Robin Hood. I also liked how the book kept me reading. I didn't like Alex's relationships with women and some of his behavior, though he helped a lot of people in need.

This is a very high praise! I usually don't read science fiction but your review is quite compelling.
I think it's very interesting that the main character is a teenager. This definitely should make him act differently about his powers than an adult would. That might explain the womanizer part you mention that bothered you. I don't know the whole story and I don't justify it, but sometimes teenage boys can be more volatile.
Great review, thanks!

Is Robin Hood at fault? This book seems to have its own take on the story. Thank you for your descriptive review.
