Pulled in by the cover and blurb I curiously decided to read Alex Fayman’s novel called Superhighway. Although I am a frequent user of technology and the Internet, I knew there was much more for me to discover of its realms and possibilities in the world of science fiction.

From the first five chapters, I was absorbed with the story and the young main character named Alex. Alex, an orphan, learned from a young age how compelling the world online could be, he spent years in and out of foster families before graduating high school. While still in the orphanage he learned from a recent addition of new computers that he had the power to travel through the computer wires to beautiful beach island destinations. (The only negative effect so far seemed to be unparalleled hunger and security finding out he wasn’t a guest not paying for any part of his so-called vacation).

On his second attempt traveling using the Internet to Amsterdam, while in the computer universe, Alex discovers he has the world’s databases all available to him. He can look into banks, look up names and see just how much money people have secured in their accounts. The only thing is, just how secure is their money and can Alex access it? Does he want to?

While in Amsterdam, with no identification or money Alex opened up a new checking account with a thousand euros by sliding again into the Internet and it’s realm of possibilities. Struggling with the idea of right and wrong Alex researches information about a known mobster and looks into his options on further obtaining money. When he does he realizes how open the world is to him, the people he can meet and what he can do. Because of the compelling narrative, the fascinating subject and the compelling character of Alex I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I was absorbed in my trip into Fayman’s story, just as his character was with the realms of Internet opening his connection to the world. I was riveted with the very idea that someone could travel to other countries, go into the computer and into the Internet to learn and, in Alex’s case, become a digital Robin Hood. Suddenly he wasn’t just an orphan living out his days in an orphanage, he could travel and help people. Alex repaid kindness from a man he met named Stewart and the interesting interactions, the vivid descriptions and overall enjoyable plot that Alex pursues is to be applauded.

I was riveted as the chapters in the story progressed as I followed along with Alex’s adventures, his discovery, learning about his parents and all awhile wondering where the internet would lead him next.
