The novel The Superhighway is a fictional novel that narrates the life of a young boy called Alex in Los Angeles. Alex is a teenager who loves computers and technologies. He lives in the children and as such is not accustomed to lavish lifestyle. He is diligent and records good marks in school. This makes many parents who wish to adopt children to give him the first consideration. He's adopted by the Collins and Dempster's family's respectively but his dreams of a happy family ain't fulfilled as he is taken back to the orphanage by his foster parents. He blames himself for the failed familial relationships. Later, he moves away from the orphanage and traverses the various countries in the world using technology.
I loved the thrilling and adventurous scenes in the book. It was action packed. Alex life is full of adventures. He almost burns all the computers recently brought into the school laboratory all in the name of fixing a broken internet connection. In the process, he gets charged by electricity and loses his consciousness. Apart from that, the manner in which the trick the security guys in the hotel into the business centre, and thereafter having them charged with electrical shocks is fascinating. He is cunning and have mastered the art of bailing himself out of difficult situations. The guards are finally trapped in the electrified room, and he manoeuvres his way to freedom and evades paying the bills. That was an excellent caption.
Apart from that, the author has a good writing style. He employs flashbacks, similes and dilemma. Moreover, he uses rich vocabulary in writing. The English used in writing the book is well blended and flows easily like a river downstream. I had no problem at all in mastering the books plot. However, I was disappointed by Foster parents like Dempster's and Collins'. They are inhumane. I felt like speaking some sense into their brains. Who takes an adopted child back to the orphanage when they sire their own children? Taking Alex back to the children home was unbecoming of them. They thrashed the boys hope of a family and made him appear a villain.
All in all, I would give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The book has interesting moral lessons to any open-minded persons. Moral lessons are not only limited at the books end but are equally spread in entire novel.Furthermore, the author has employed comical scenes which at times made me laugh. The novel wasn't boring to read. Actually, the novel had little grammar errors. I think the author must have properly proofed it before the actual publication. The errors encountered were simple spelling mistakes.
I recommend this book to all science students, lovers of science fiction and undergraduates taking science courses. It is a really nice read. They will love Alex personality and his desire for knowledge and learning something new. Alex at times misses his dinner just to spend more time on the computers trying something new. Moreover, his life is action packed, full of adventures and trickery that is a good source of comedy. I really loved this book.
