Roan is a fascinating book about a young man, Connor. He is stuck between legend, myths, and reality. But he must fight and defend himself, his town. So much responsibility for an adolescent boy.
Prior to him living in Tinker’s Grove, he used to stay with his mother in Chicago. Unfortunately, she passed away living him with an instruction to look for an aunt he never knew existed in a mysterious town.
Meanwhile Dr. Drake also just set up his facility in the same town at the same time Connor arrived at the town. Was it a coincidence? With his arrival and that of Dr. Drake’s, several things set into motion including the disappearance of children in the town. While still trying to grasp this new reality and leave old ones behind he has to fight to be welcome in the community and as a 'dark one,' his obligation and others like him was to protect this community. But he was not alone, he has friends who were like family to him, speaking of the priest and his aunt whose wisdom knew no boundaries. I found myself asking this questions: can love cover all things? Is wisdom profitable to all?
Barr has taken great effort to make this book suspenseful, dropping hints bit by bit. His characters shewed significant historical background as not just ordinary people but mystical and dynamic. Connor is a remarkable character whose role we can relate to. I am very intrigued by the wisdom of the aunt but wisdom is only profitable to those who are willing to listen and learn. Will Connor listen? Will he learn? Will he do whatever he can to save this town?
This book introduces us to legendary tales and folklore just like tales that our elders tell under the moonlight. Barr has presented a fascinating plot, the characters were all supportive and inspiring, I believe good surpass evil in all.
Roan: The Tale of Conor Archer by E.R is an inspiring book. I would not say anything negative about this book and the author, I believe every writer has his own style of writing and know how best to present it to the reader, and E.R Barr has done absolutely well. I am totally amazed at how the author intertwined history and other mystical beliefs within the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves sci/fi, fantasy and a little bit of legend.
Finally, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is a fascinating book and has all it takes to keep anyone reading it interested. I enjoyed reading this book and I am looking forward to reading the next volume.
