In Pursuit of the Pale Prince
By: Mark Wallace Maguire
Arestus is a boy from what they call The Wood. His father, Alton, was the village healer. Alton was hiding secrets. Arestus had to find out the secret on a whim to save the people and place. His uncle Axton was the one causing the war. This story takes you on a journey through the process of how one small child can change the outcome of anything. On his journey, he meets many characters who play big roles in the story.
Cirin is his helper. He gets the boy from The Haunted Island to where he needs to go. I can not say to much on this because it would give a way the element of surprise. This book is one kids will not want to put down.
I found this book intriguing. Once I started reading, I could not stop. The process in which the write takes you through the story, is captivating. Something that is unique to this writer, is that the chapters are not long. This pattern keeps the reader intrigued to keep reading.
I believe this story could be part of a series. If the author could come up with the story of how the Haunted Island became so, then that would be an excellent prequal to this book. He could also make a story about the little boy in the beginning of this story as a new part to the series. I know I would read it. Each book in the series could stand alone. That is how much I liked this book.
Every word of this story brought you on a journey in your own mind. I would play along with the characters while reading. My mind would constantly race to try to figure out what would happen next. I kept thinking this would make a great movie or tv show. They could build on just this one book to make the tv show keep going. The teenagers would love it, as some of the content is a little to gruesome for small children. It could be dumb downed for them, but it would take away the magic of the story. This book could jump start a discussion or lesson on mythological creatures or the mythical gods. People who homeschool could really get into that discussion and make it into a unit study. That could last a few days or weeks.
4 out of 4 stars
This book seems like it was professionally edited. I found this book to be so intriguing. I Would recommend it to anybody. It would be best to be put in the young adult category.
