Fish Wielder
J.R.R.R (JIM) Hardison's the
Fish Wielder
is one hilarious book. The story is about a tough and mysterious fighter named Thoral Mighty Fist. He is always up for adventurous activities especially the kind that is full of danger. His sidekick is a twelve-inch-long koi fish who is intelligent and his advice always proves to be helpful. Thoral also has a horse named Warlordhorse who can sense danger through his sense of smell. It's quite ridiculous that Thoral hates ale, yet he is almost always drinking especially when mourning.

Thoral is against many evils as the story progresses. Most of his opponents are agents of the Bad Religion which is always trying to kill him. Of all the dark brothers, an evil sorcerer named Necrogrond is the toughest as he is immortal. Thoral has to kill Necrogrond three times which he feels is a nuisance since none of the battles between them are easy. The tough warrior always seems to be losing his fights but being the great warrior that we know him to be, he always emerges victorious. It looks as if he is really losing when he fights Necrogrond for the second time and when he fights the Heartless one. Thoral Mighty Fist is sworn to stop the Bad Religion who are trying to get to the Great Pudding of Power. The pudding is supposed to help whoever wears it to survive the Bracelet of Evil and rule over Grome.

I just loved the whole story. The author transports one into a world of Fantasy full of possibilities. I could actually visualize Thoral swinging his magic sword, Blurmflard, and punching the agents of the Bad religion. The author's ability to make everything humorous including battles is amazing. The kind of names used in this book are also pretty funny. Names such as
Knights of the Order of the Goat
and the
Gruesomely Gashed Gnome
will leave you laughing. some of the names such as
Brendylschmylyn
are so hard to pronounce that I just gave one look at them and moved on.

What is ironical is that such a great warrior cries openly in front of the Elf force. His character through out the story is static. He is brought out as a fierce warrior who doesn't accept defeat, someone who loves to be in the center of trouble and emotional too, especially over deaths he believes himself to be their cause. If I was to choose my favourite character, I would be torn between Brad and Trenton. Trenton is however naive in a rather annoying way but it all serves to add more humour to the action packed story.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It's one great book and once you start reading it, you just get hooked. It's not a lot of books that can get a hold of me the way this book does. It is full of crazy and weird happenings that are thrilling and captivating. The book is well edited and I didn't notice any typing errors, or maybe I was to deep into the fantasy to notice them. The book is a work of perfection as a whole.

If extreme fantasy is your kind of book, then I advice you to get this one as it will just blow your mind.
