Superhighway by Alex Fayman is a book you will have a hard time putting down. Here we have the story of Alex Fine. He is a poor orphan who knows nothing of his family. He has just turned 18 and is headed to Stanford on a full scholarship. The orphanage he where he grew up is given a few new computers to set up a computer lab for the children. Helping set up that workplace changes his life.

The author has given us an excellent book of science fiction with very original ideas. The mode of Alex's travel is not difficult to imagine. I appreciated that, although explanations were necessary, there was not a lot of technical mumbo-jumbo to wade through. I did enjoy the descriptions of Alex's trips as he moved from one place to another.

The way Alex travels is quite original and something I think most of us would like to try. I certainly would! As Alex travels, we can see what he sees, like the towering buildings of New York and the twinkling lights of Los Angeles. We can feel the breeze from the warm Caribbean ocean. We can see the glorious sunsets in one place after another. On the other hand, we can also see and almost smell the wonderful foods he eats in various places. You might want to grab a bag of chips before you sit down to read. The regular mention of food made me hungry, but I didn't want to stop reading just to get a snack.

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is well written; the story moves along at a good pace. The author's descriptions of people, places, and things are well-rounded. The book is based on a very creative notion. I feel the story will appeal not only to science fiction fans but also to those who would like to think of something really different. People who enjoy light science fiction, like Star Trek or Star Wars, will enjoy this book immensely. Although, as a warning, he does not leave the earth and go seeking other civilizations. He does do some great things, though!

I appreciated that there was minimal sex, violence, and foul language. There are a few scenes that are hard to read, but all in all it would be appropriate for young readers as well.

I look forward to the next book in the series. I really, really need to know what happens next!
