I loved reading Superhighway by Alex Fayman that I'll rate it a 4 out of 4. It is about an 18-year-old boy named Alex Fine who grew up in an orphanage. Before starting college he discovers his incredible ability to move within the internet cables transporting himself to anywhere in the world that the internet can reach. After a few trips through the internet, he realized that he can obtain information and manipulate data at will. With his new powers, he decides to become a new age Robin Hood stealing money from mobsters to help others while living the high life.
The characters are well written with believable backstories that I understood why they made their decisions. Even with the secondary characters, I can see that the writer had thought a lot about each character in this book. I understood how even with a good heart you can make a few bad decisions, which Alex will make a few in this book. I didn't grow up in an orphanage but I share the same love of being alone with the comfort of books growing up same as the main character Alex. I appreciate that it doesn't get too graphic during the sex scenes like erotic novels, just a little foreplay then it's over.
The writer took the time to describe how when traveling to the different locations there is a weather and time difference of each location. The story starts off in L.A. then it's off to Hawaii, Amsterdam, Miami, the Caribbean, and a privately own island. The idea of traveling to these places in a matter of moments instead of hours is something I have fantasized about in the past. The setting is described so well that I could easily picture the extravagant homes and places in this book.
When I read the description I first thought it was going to be similar to the movie Jumper with the actor Hayden Christensen but it’s not. The difference is electroporation instead of teleportation and that the character can do more than just moving to different locations. This book has a uniqueness that I could see it turning into a movie or a t.v. show. It has superpowers, rich life experience, mobsters, and love life drama I think that is a good combo for a good show.
The climax of the story is Alex discovering his true origin of who his parents are and why he was given to the orphanage. The end is left open to continue the story in another book which I already have on my list of what to read next. I look forward to seeing what happens to Alex Fine in part 2. I see that they are marketing it as a trilogy but the 3rd installment hasn't been published as of now. I would recommend this book to anyone.
