The example that first came to my mind was a student graduating from high school intending to go to college. They just had a great time their senior year of high school and they are excited for what’s to come, but college is a whole new sort of stress. It’s good for them because they are extending their education, but it’s stressful.

Negative stress might not be always necessary. If at all it's maintained at low levels, then it can be constructive.

Yes negative stress is named so, as it is harmful to you and not necessary. Positive stress in the mild short term can boost your motivation and competitive level and can also be helpful in times of emergency.Joseph_ngaruiya wrote: ↑17 Aug 2020, 07:40 Nqobile771 wrote:

Yes, the idea of positive stressors was a term I had heard before but never got into detail. Reading this book has definitely increased my knowledge of stressors.Joseph_ngaruiya wrote: ↑16 Aug 2020, 15:08 Suzer6440 xyz wrote:

Indeed, Gustavo's work has been very helpful. I also didn't have a clear view of positive and negative stressors. But the practical guide has helped me learn a lot.

Very true, but don't you find yourself stressed by positive things to an extent the stress becomes detrimental? I think such moments can be categorized as negative stress moments.

I agree with you on that note. His book is paramount evidence that he has all-round knowledge of the drugs and chemicals tending to the stress in our bodies.Joseph_ngaruiya wrote: ↑18 Aug 2020, 04:09Gustavo Kinrys has a heap of experience in the Psychiatry department. Yeah, not really. Besides the harmful effects of high-stress levels, the way you can handle your stress is important. For example, when you are in the case of an emergency like being trapped in a fire or running away from danger, you are going to have high-stress levels. But it is this stress which increases the body's adrenaline and cognitive function and can save you from a life-threatening situation.Joseph_ngaruiya wrote: ↑18 Aug 2020, 04:06It is the same point I raised, you only structured it differently.Howlan wrote: ↑18 Aug 2020, 03:14Yes, chronic stress is always harmful to your body. I guess in the back of my mind, I always knew that all my stressful experiences were not the same. Some I dreaded and others I looked forward to. This book showed me the clear categorical differences. And now I can think of so many periods of positive and negative stressors in my life.rahilshajahan wrote: ↑01 Aug 2020, 05:59 The book talks about stressors (reasons for one to stress) being of two types- positive and negative. I always believed stress was not good emotionally and physically, basically negative.
But now that I think about it, an assignment which you can solve with some hours of studying should be positive stress. Am I thinking right? Do you have any better examples?
A positive stressor I can think of was when I lost my grandmother, and a positive one was when I got my first job. I got the wind of the interview on short notice and had to prepare myself for it in a matter of hours. I was technically the most unprepared. However, I aced the interview and got the job.
