Kalayla is a beautiful name and she's the youngest so she represents the future. If you have a story about three generations of women, you will think about what comes after and I think she represents that.

The title of the book is appropriate as Kalayla is what ties the 3 women together. She also represents the future and the next generation, she represents the concept of moving forward which I think is the main idea of the book.

Where's the hook? What is it about it's current title that engages me, entices me, tells me a little something about the story? Not very much.

Yes, continuation, growth and change are also themes that show up from the entire story. Kalayla is trying to find herself, Maureen is struggling to get a better life and Lena is working tirelessly to heal and change her present from the lessons she got from her past. All these things contribute to the easy flow of the book, which keeps the reader entertained and informed.

Whenever a title like a character's name is given, it depicts how deep that character goes through the novel. It suggests the reader about the uniqueness of that character, the pros and cons of the personality of the character. I think Kalayla is such character dealt in the book. So it an apt title.

'Kalayla' seemed appropriate. The story revolves around other three but she is kind of a bridge in between. And the name too is intriguing.

I believe the title alone makes one inquisitive to read the book, but I would hv preferred if it had a sub title following it. For instance: ”Kalayla - unknoting the family tie.”

I have no issues with the author's choice of the book's title. I found Kalayla's story to be the most intriguing. More so, she was like a bridge between the other two characters. So I agree with the choice of title for the book.

Kalayla is best suitable for the title. She is the viaduct between the three characters. Additionally, most part of the narrative revolves around her and is she is the one that binds the family together.

Kalayla is just okay.
'Family Ties' would be a good alternative. However, I think the distinctiveness of the book would be terminated. I mean, Kalayla was the youngest but most part and best part of the story revolved around her.

Guda LM wrote: 02 Sep 2020, 05:27 I believe it is appropriate, since the eleven-year-old is the youngest and the common factor between the other two ladies. Additionally, she is also the one who has gone through alot in a short period of time time and still has a alot of room to turn her life around. She is also both mature but still has a child side, basically she is the most profound of the three.
I agree with the fact that the most captivating experiences of the book revolve around Kalayla. I mean, her childish experience gives her the platform to turn her life around. And that's the best part of the book.

Each of the protagonists represent a different set of perspectives, but hope tends to lie with the future, which is normally invested in children. So I think, given that the book deals with positive change, Kalayla is a good title; it's provides focus.

It is intriguing, agreed. But should a title has to be intriguing? Should it not give some sort of insight for the book? In that aspect, 'family ties' could have been a better alternative. What do you think?
I came here to say exactly this. Although we shouldn't, people have a distinct tendency to give an unbalanced amount of "to-read points" to a title and a cover. If the cover isn't attractive, and the title tells me nothing about a book, there is unfortunately a higher chance that I'm going to pass it by. "Family Ties," as previously suggested, at least gives the potential reader the impression that it will be a family-based, likely dramatic, story.

The title of the book is unique and appropriate as Kalayla ties all the women together as a united family.
