Because of their background, interracial marriages appear to be the most difficult, but if the two couples decide to overlook any obstacles, it will be simple for them. Lena wearing black was a cool feature of the weeping ladies, and I think it fits her character development perfectly.

I quite agree with your point. She wears black as she is always mourning the losses in her life.

Losing her sons took a lot from her and I believe this unfortunate event led to her choosing to stick with wearing the colour, black, as well as what she experienced in her marital life. The white apartment, I do feel is a glimmer of hope that everything will turn out to be just fine.

I do agree that she wears black as a sign of mourning; mourning for all that she lost: her sons, her youth, her family, her happiness. I also feel like it signifies giving up on the luxuries of life. As for the white, I think with all the secret she carries, perhaps she wanted something blank, clean, and unblemished.

I think she wears black because of the experiences she has had in the past and what she had to go through with her sons. The reason for her wearing white would be the peace and calmness she had in her home.

I think Lena wants the outside world to see the mourning side but was not giving up with her apartment being white. Later in the novel, I just feel she loves white colour and that was why her apartment was painted in white.

Lena wear black maybe she expressing her current mental situation which is drepressed and her house is painted in white because she want to show how empty she feel without her children.
