I think the character I enjoyed reading about most was Galen...
I didn't really enjoy Maido; I didn't like his guts in the story

I liked the trio of Galen, Rowan and Demetrius, especially the banters between Rowan and Demetrius, it was fun to read. Prince Darius was just out of place, I found no connection.

I liked Galen and the price. I found both of them interesting, and both of the characters had tough times and had life changing journeys.

Midius Maido is a selfish prick. I hated reading his thoughts and how he justifies his actions

I like the characters of Meldorath and Demetrius. I would like to know more about their thoughts. They are covered in mysteris.
On the other hand, I really don't like Alabaster. His humor is discomforting.

The characterization is very perfect. Every character played their role to the fullest. However, the only character that didn't really interest me is Prince Darius. The character is a bit out of place.

Lord Medorath has to be my least favorite character. He seems to enjoy the human's suffering.

I didn’t like Rowan much, he seemed like a villain to me. I believe he’s harmless, though. I also disliked the son of Lord Eldus, he has all the characteristics to become evil later on.

I could not quite make up my mind about Alabaster, he was such a complicated character that it could go either way.

My favorite in this book was Galen, so innocent and gullible.

I like Rowan because of his arrogance sarcasm. He is really annoying but he is one person that was there for Galen irrespective of any happenings.

If we are only talking about the first book, I think Galan would be my least favorite character of all. He seemed to me, very flat and not even believable, to be honest. I mean, come on, who survives a land torn apart by war and constant misery and is still innocent and ignorant to the world? It just doesn't make sense to me.

My favorite character of the first book (I have and another opinion about the second) would be Meldorath. I don't know what it is about him, but I feel like he is much more relatable than Galan. I would categorize him as a morally grey character, not a villain yet. Yes, he did something wrong, but they didn't even let him explain, didn't even give him a fair trial, just imprisoned him and tried to erase him for existence, saying he was dead. I am not saying he is a good guy, but sadly people tend to fear what they don't understand, and they didn't even give him a chance.

If you hadn't noticed already, I tend to like the mad and broken characters. I like seeing their ark of redemption or their epic downfall, whichever comes first.

Alabaster, by contrast, was utterly loathsome. He had a creepy power that he used for perverse ends.
I agree with you. Lord Eldus seemed genuinely interested in taking care of his new charges, from the youngest to the eldest. He wanted to do right by them and make their lives better.

Alabaster was really creepy...skin crawly creepy!

I hated Chancellor Midius Maido so much! He is a political animal and he just wants power no matter the cost. And he can't dance, and that the worst!

I'd have to say Rowan and Demetrius are my favorite characters. I find their competitive bantering amusing. My least favorite characters were Midius Maido, Prince Darius, and Beth. Midius Maido and Prince Darius both come across as very vain and nasty, while Beth is not given much depth in this book, though I expect that will change as the story continues in later books.

well I must say that I connected with a lot of characters, Galen for one, because of his naivety, Lord Eldus for his compassion and his need to do good, Meldorath, for his intriguing nature and Rowan for his fun nature. However, even though I do not consider him my least favourite character, I must say that Maido was somewhat annoying, and the fact that he was always looking for ways to rub shoulders with the king at all time was just upsetting as I would naturally dislike a person with such nature if they were to be around me.

I honestly really like Rowan and Demetrius and their friendship with Galen. Their relationship was a much needed light-hearted and wholesome break from the rest of the novel. On the other hand, I wasn't really a big fan of Galen. It just seems like he doesn't really do anything of importance, yet the novel sets him up to be a major protagonist in the series.
