Eldus' death was a big shock for me. Until the last moment of his death, I held my hopes high that he will somehow survive or be rescued by someone. His character was so perfect and he could have done a lot to improve the situation of Hillport.

I did expect Eldus to die at the end of the story, his role felt very similar to that of a certain character in Game of Thrones/ A Song of Ice and Fire. It was fairly effective, but I do wish we had spent a little bit more time with him first, which would have really ramped up the emotional intensity of it. I like knowing that the series isn't afraid to kill off characters though

Lord Eldus was a great wholesome character. Even till the end I kept hoping that he would escape. It seemed too big to kill a character like Eldus, almost like killing heromoine in the first Harey Potter book. Nevertheless, he still dies and every reader must have been saddened by his demise.

Yes! Absolutely! This is my one sore spot about the book. The death of the Alderman family was rushed. Especially Lady Charlotte and Isla, their deaths are just mentioned, not even described, and that made me sad.

Yes, it was sad and surprising to see not just Lord Eldus, but also his wife and daughter getting killed. His presence will be felt in the series and surely his living son will try to take revenge against the Riva Rohavi, and perhaps, Lord Meldorath.

I was shocked but also not shocked at Lord Eldus' death...after watching Game of Thrones and seeing Ned Stark killed off I have come to realize that not much can surprise me anymore lol. I think the author was probably inspired by GOT as it seems Marshus has lived and will move forward to avenge his father; Marshus will probably come to play a major role in future books.

Yeah, I was disappointed that he died, and by the way he died. It's like the one's trying to be noble, almost always die an insignificant death. I was really looking forward to the changes he would make in Hillport. I wonder what will become of his son. I expect big things from him though.

Death of Elsdus break my heart. Wanted to mention it in review, but can't. He being nice to the people of hillport. The way he talk to people really impressive. Especially the talk with children, really shows how good he was with people skill. The death of both eldus and captain was big blow for me.

I completely agree with you. Lord Eldus left us too soon. He could have done so much for the city of Hillport. Maybe Tysz had to kill him off because he was too perfect and that wouldn't make the story interesting enough. At least his son survived.

I was also disappointed and a lot of questions followed after his death course I thought that Eldus was gonna be successful in creating a change to Hillport. I also felt so hurt, I loved his character.

I also felt a little disapointment at Lord Eldus' death. Though I was able to pull myself together along the story. Since his death was justified by the threatening role of riva rohavi

Lord Eldus untimely demise was quite heartbreaking. I really his character and contribution to the story. Anyway all of it made this plot more engaging and absolutely interesting.

Lord Eldus and his plan to revitalize the town was my favorite part of the book. I enjoyed that we got to spend so much time with him as he grappled with the impossible task before him. Though I did see his death coming, I was sad that he wouldn't be featured in other books.

Lord Eldus was a prominent character in the novel and being the next Lord of Hillport after Lord Meldorath made him a threat, his abrupt demise was not shocking but it was not expected at that point in the story.
