I don't like it much when characters I like are killed off. I would have really loved to see Hillport prosper under Lord Eldus- all the plans he had that would never see the light of day...

It is the first book of the series, so I think you might understand later. However, I also think that his death was something unexpected and maybe this was already a reason since we didn't see it coming.

The only thing that caught me off was Lord Eldus's death. I know it was important for the character development but still, it was really sad to see a guy being killed who was just protecting his people. He always wanted the good of Hillport until the end.

I was horrified when I read that part. But then again, it's one of the things that well leave me wanting to read more of the story in the sequels.
I'm surprised at how attached I am to that character. I hope there will be justice for him in the end.

I was also stunned by Lord Eldus's death but I believe It is essential for character development though am yet to read the rest of the books in the series.

It's unfair, but most deaths in fiction aren't, it's just realistic. His death seemed quite likely to me for most of the novel but it was still fairly effective when it happened due to just how tense and horrifying the Riva Rohavi attack was. A fairly good climax to the novel

I totally agree. I was really rooting for his success and wanted to see the new and transformed Hillport.

I agree! I felt that Lord Eldus' death came way too soon. He didn't even get a chance to put his economic plan into effect before the Riva Rohavi came and attacked. But, seeing as his son survived, I want to know what happened to him and how he will return later in the series. I wonder if he will want to avenge his family's murder.

I think the death of Eldus wants makes the book most interesting. My heart really breaks on the death of captain and Eldus. I think the purpose of the author was to create hate in heart of the reader for Meldorath. Meldorath killing an innocent good man like Eldus really makes readers hate him. The hate creates a by reason for the reader to read the rest part of Voulhire.

It seems unfair, and like the good ones always die. But it is part of the plot, and I believe the author felt he had to go to make room for the growth of his son in subsequent books.

I agree that the ending was very frustrating. The death of Lord Eldus, an important character, was surprising. It makes us want to continue the serie to learn more about this kingdom.

I think Eldus was too perfect for the story; he doesn't have a single flaw and that doesn't make up for an interesting plot. I am sorry that he died but at least his son survived. The first book definitely ended with a cliffhanger; I can't wait to read the next part!

The ending was so sad, tragic and very unexpected. I loved that he opened a room at the ending so as to find out in the next episode of Voulhire. Great writers think think this way, I give the author a high five for the design.

This book is in a series and i just hope to see the reason for Lord Eldus death as i read further. I think his death was a twist to keep the plot more engaging.

jeminah28 wrote: 01 Oct 2020, 02:25 What can you say about the swift death of a man with a wholesome character in this novel? Like for example in the new Lord of Hillport. I'm still hanging why a good man died without anything in defense in this book. It seems not fair.

I thought so of that, but I also came to understand some misfortune events in a novel like this birth greater opportunities of more significant and intriguing events. The death of Lord Eldus was shocking but the escape of Prince Darius brought home of redemption to the lost Hillport and also births an unknown event in the forthcoming chapters.
