The book involves only a few female characters: Is it justified?

I think it is okay, it is justified in my opinion. Beth is a female character, and the wife and daughter of Alderman are female characters, the fact it doesn't have a female character as the lead role doesn't mean it is justified. It is justified in my opinion.

I think the lacking female characters might be because this is the first book in the series. For now we are being introduced to what Voulhire is like, coupled with its medieval setting.
Today's me is better than yesterday's me.
