From my perspective the plot is original, though it does contain familiar elements with other medieval fantasy books such as magic, Matthew doesn't use the same tropes as other books, for instance Meldorath doesn't utter incantations to use magic and most of the time there aren't any flashy light-shows when magic is used. Amongst other original ideas such as biomagic.

I think that most books in the genre do overlap and have some similarities throughout. I believe the author has done a great job at creating a unique and enjoyable plot. It's quite different and original.

There are some commonalities between this and other books I have read. It comes down to the uniqueness of his world. Tysz has truly built his own world view here. The three universes he has and the depth of description for each is a wonder honestly.

There are thousands of books on magic. So, it doesn't seem fascinating to read another one. But, the whole plot can't be copied. The plot of Caromentis and the land of princes was a new one. That makes the story somehow different.

It definitely does resemble other works, but I think the theological aspect, as well as the concept of Caromentis seems like enough to differentiate it. I'm sure it will become more and more unique throughout the series

This novel is heavily inspired by Lord of the Rings and A Song of Ice and Fire books, but the writer brings his own sensibility and imagination, and presents an oft told story with a certain deftness and panache that the book feels original and honest.

I don't think so. I have not read many books on fantasy but I'm pretty sure the book is unique in its storyline. There are so many interesting characters like Beth, Meldorath, and Galen. I don't think so that building so much good character, can be a work of plagiarism.

Well, I believe that no plot is completely original. All of our imagination comes from the things we see, read, hear, and learn. So obviously the plot of this book will resemble others a little, but it still has its unique moments.

I felt that the story was unique. The world created by Matthew Tysz (the Emperor of Lullabies, Voulhire, Caromentis...) was unique. I have never read any fantasy world quite like this.

The plot and setting are not original but it is still an amazing book. The author took some tropes common to the genre and adapted them to his story. You could argue that Hamlet is also not 'original' and it is still the greatest play ever written.

The plot of the book looks very original, depicting ancient medieval culture n setting. I love how every conflict functionally blends. Magic and the names of characters that also depict the setting.

I will say that even if it wasn't a science book, it still contains element of science fiction but some parts are real.

The story is unique but the concepts are not all new. There is nothing new in literature anyway. Writers only retell stories. The idea of the two worlds represented in the book is definitely a new idea.

The story may have had influences from here and there. Original or not, I think it's great either way.

Gabrielle Sigaki wrote: 01 Oct 2020, 06:02 Matthew Tysz brings in this novel a fascinating story with magic, some mysterious characters, and a lot more. I loved the book and thought that it was well-developed with an engaging and gripping plot. However, I also thought that it resembled other books I read about a medieval world with magical powers, heroes, kings, evil, and good. Do you think that the story is indeed unique or a common variation of the Middle Ages books?
I believe the plot is original and unique not an ordinary magic book.
