Very interesting observation. I thought that Folcro would save Kayden because they were old but close friends. After reading your last paragraph, it's a possibility that yes he was doing it for selfish reasons.RobinBennet wrote: ↑13 Oct 2020, 19:02 Simply put, a sociopath is someone who has an antisocial personality disorder. Those people can’t understand others’ feelings. They’ll often break rules or make impulsive decisions without feeling guilty for the harm they cause. They will probably use mind games to control people. They may also be perceived as charismatic or charming.
So, Folcro by definition is a sociopath, no questions asked!!!
He is a really interesting character, but his motives and desires aren't completely clear to me. I don't think anyone is innately evil, people aren't born monsters they are made. . .
His behavior towards Kayden is completely unjustified. You don't hurt the people you love, ergo he didn't love Kayden, even if he made an effort to save him in the end. It wasn't out of love, but his own selfish reasons.
If you ask me what Folcro liked about Kayden was that he had the unconditional love and unending admiration of someone. He had a dog constantly following him around, catering to his every need. Their relationship was very unbalanced and toxic. Folcro was feeding his ego of Kayden while Kayden was living the illusion he needed to survive his cruel reality.
I also thought that maybe Kayden was hallucinating. Maybe Folcro didn't try to save him. But I do see your explanation making the most sense so far.

His behavior toward Kayden was straight-out hideous, and it can't be justified. However, I don't believe that he's naturally evil, I have high trust that his parents have significant influence to how he thinks now. I'm certain that he'll be back, but I'm sure he'll remain a villain in his next appearance. I don't think his insistence at Kayden, after killing Kayden's loved ones, was an indication of a little goodness in his heart. It was most likely, to me, that he wants somebody to be with in playing people's lives.rahilshajahan wrote: ↑10 Oct 2020, 09:06 In simple terms, Hans Hrelek aka Folcro is a sociopath. There is so many levels to this man. My question is his behavior towards Kayden justified? Is Folcro innately evil, so as to be the fulcrum to the story? Then, why did he try to save Kayden in the end? So many intriguing questions left with no answers! What do you guys think?

I'm not sure if he's THE fulcrum (a character on which the story hinges). But he's definitely one of the fulcrums.
And I think the only reason he wanted to take Kayden with him was to use him for some future endeavours.
