Rowans Name Reveal?

Post by MegFaithHan99 »

How big of a surprise was it that Rowan gave his full name? What do we think of it? Does that change his character and how he holds his guard up?

At first, I thought Rowan's family would be someone influential or someone with political power. However, the impact when his identity is revealed was not as great as I expected. Even if Rowan's parents are among the most prominent doctors in Soulhire, it means nothing. So far, the existence of doctors is very faint. I guess when you have magic, you don't really need healers anyway. Which is why I still don't get what makes Rowan so reluctant to return. The lack of characters' backgrounds is the most insufficiency of this series.

I agree.
The revelation of Rowan's full name wasn't much of a surprise and I still didn't get what impact it had.

I did think however, that the fact that he gave his name showed his character softening and less guarded that before.

Rowan's name reveal did not really make a stir. His revelation might me a show of him being more comfortable with his companions and willing to share a bit of himself.

I'm not sure, I feel like I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. I felt like there's more to the story that the characters haven't uncovered yet.

As is, it didn't seem that big a deal, but maybe there's more.

It's obvious that Rowan is not completely transparent and is hiding something. What, we do not know yet. Revealing his name did not give the reader a lot of extra useful information.

Yes, I think so, too. It should be a sign that he has trusted Demetrius more. Also, like he said, Demetrius is the only one who actually wants to know about his last name. So Rowan's revealing his name means Demetrius has earned Rowan's favor. As it shows in the next books, they have become significantly close, sometimes even closer than with Galen.

The presence of specialists is weak. I think about when you have enchantment, you don't generally require healers at any rate. Which is the reason I actually don't get what makes Rowan so hesitant to return. The absence of characters' experiences is the most inadequacy of this arrangement.

Rowan’s name reveal has little to no relevance to his character or the story. Yes, his family has money and status due to being prominent doctors (whatever they bring to this world), but other than serving as a way for the three men to obtain an invitation to the palace, there is no real significance. Perhaps later on we will learn more about Rowan and his past, but right now the whole name reveal thing seems like a useless, uninteresting mystery.

Considering Rowan's character, that was indeed a huge step. I think rather than disclosing information, it felt like disclosing a vulnerable side to his personality. Rowan is a proud person and his pride rests assuredly on his independence. Giving out his family name affects the latter notably because it makes it seem as if he had it all on a silver plate, which as a result affects the image he wants to give.
People who read are hiders. They hide who they are. People who hide don't always like who they are.

I feel like the initial reveal definitely wasn't as surprising or important as I was expecting it to be, however I feel like (as some others have said) it may have some more depth that will be revealed later on. I do however think it was a nice moment where we saw Rowan put one of his many walls down. I feel as though as the storyline progresses, we will see him continue to let those walls down and we will see more layers to his personality.

I may be weird for saying this but I already feel like his character has changed. His not the same Rowan I met on the first book. Rowan from the first book was very witty and fun, the one I met in this book was very serious and sombre. Maybe it's because a lot has happened and he has seen things that he never thought he would ever see and somehow they have changed him. I miss his humour, it sparkled the book.

I agree with you. Until the last minute I didn't want to ascertain anything yet. Obviously the author has a lit of things planed for us in the remaining books of the series. I guess all we have to do is wait patiently to let things reveal.

Then again, I had expected more out of Rowan's surname reveal. I had hoped him to be more influential. Of course Galen didn't even see this much coming, but with Demitrius being all smug with the name, I had high hopes.

I was not really surprised to find out that Rowan was born into money. I think Rowan was not being honest about his name and family because he does not want people to treat him differently and I genuinely think Rowan does not care about status and money.

We knew he lived in Soulhire, so I'm not surprised about the wealth and all. I am curious about his sister though, and their relationship with one another. Seems to be significant in my opinion. I think we will learn more about him if we meet her.
