Official Review: Infected Connection by L. Ashley Straker

Post by mstrick96 »

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Infected Connection" by L Ashley Straker.]

Simon Parfitt, an employee of a major smartphone manufacturer, is assigned to help track down the cause of mysterious failures in their new flagship product. The failures are causing massive returns, jeopardizing the reputation and future of the company. During his investigation, Simon accidentally discovers spider-like creatures growing in the lithium batteries of the cell phones and soon learns that when the creatures hatch, they immediately infect and take control of the human owners of the phones. Simon is inexorably drawn into a worldwide struggle for survival between the human race and the mysterious intelligence that control the spiders.

Simon finds that the control extends not just to infected humans, but also to all the communications devices on the internet and to any equipment that the Infected have captured. He is now the target of an enemy of vast capability that also has control of all the surveillance and communications equipment that it has captured. He is recruited by the government and military to assist in figuring out the enemy and in determining how to combat it.

Even though this is a commonly used plot-line for a science fiction novel, Infected Connection is a novel of uncommon excellence. The reader is immediately caught up in the midst of the action and follows Simon as he uncovers evidence of the worldwide plot and plays a key role in combating the intelligence behind the plot. Part mystery, suspense, action-adventure and science fiction, this well written novel is one that I had a hard time putting down. It grabbed my attention and curiosity right at the beginning and didn’t let go.

The story takes place in today’s 21st century networked world in London and through Europe. The reader follows Simon as he uncovers the details of the plot step by step and is carried into a role and a world that he is not prepared for. There are many twists and turns and surprises and the ending was one that I absolutely did not expect at all. Outstanding!

This is a very satisfying book that should appeal to science fiction aficionados as well as those who enjoy a good mystery or suspense novel.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I agree, this was a very helpful review. I often shy away from this type of plot thinking i'll be a step in front of the author the entire time but I think i'm going to take a chance on this one.
