We have two key parties in this novel. First, we have Tammy Wood, the antagonist. She keeps the story flowing with her wicked doings. Secondly, there is Amy, the protagonist, whose mental health was corrupted immensely by her stepmother, Tammy, during her childhood days.

Amy grew up knowing from a young age that her biological mother, Stephanie, abandoned her and then died in an accident. As a child, she suffered mental and sexual abuse from her stepmother. Her father, Richard, sided with his wife, and the two parents threw Amy in a mental facility for years. Thankfully, she is now an adult and working for ZURA, a company that her biological mother and stepmom founded in their years as best friends. Spoiler alert: Stephanie is much alive, and Amy will stop at nothing to be reunited with her. Meanwhile, Amy plans to expose Tammy’s wrongdoings on an upcoming wedding anniversary.

I enjoyed the diversity in sexual orientation in the story. Tammy is bisexual and was born a hermaphrodite. However, she used her same-sex attraction to assault Amy as a child. I like that the author utilized distinctive gender identities. I found Tammy best fitted for her role as an antagonist. She’s heartless, has mental issues, and can execute the most unimaginable crimes. I mean, she is not afraid of killing her husband to possess his wealth.

I despised the poor narrating style. Some paragraphs were lengthy and could be revised to two or three sentences. Consequently, repetitions were numerous. Despite that, the book was exceptionally engaging.

I did not see the story ending the way it did. Thus, I’m unequivocal the sequel will be mind-boggling! I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. For one, there are different storylines packed in the work. We have court proceedings, assassins implementing their plans, a crazy woman for a stepmother and wife, a vengeful young lady, etc. Despite being a short novel, the author executed every aspect expertly.

Even with everything she’s been through, Stephanie portrays as the most selfless person one can encounter. Amanda was there for Amy through her weakest times. Phillip shows us the extreme actions one can take to save their family. Finally, at 22 years old, Amy has been through so much that I’m not sure I’d fit in her shoes. I only encountered a few errors. Hence, the book is professionally edited. I recommend Desperate by Narcisse Lorraine Moungounda Pemba to readers intrigued by books with hints of mental health disorders, revenge, hate, love, and family.

I want Amy to be OK. I also want to find out what happened to Amy’s mother and what caused the falling out between her and Tammy.

What happened to Amy's mother? I am asking what is that Amy went through at the age of 22.

The book tackles a topic that is very much prevalent in today's society. Issues of abandonment, cruelty, revenge and shattered childhoods are amongst many social ills that requires society to come up with solutions.

After reading the review, I really want to read the book. The plot development seems intriguing. As I visualized Tammy's downfall, It reminded me of the popular saying "No peace for the wicked."

Cruel of the stepmom to sexually abuse her. I'll like to see if Tammy eventually reunited with her biological mother. Thank you for the review.

This novel seems really well constructed with fleshed-out characters but it addresses tough themes, so I need to be in the proper mood to read it. Thank you for your great review!
