Review of In the Heart of Prague (Honza Book 1)
Jonny Fox was a former Detective Chief Inspector in the Metropolitan Police. Even though he was born in the UK, he had a Czech mother. And it's just in the Czech Republic that he's enjoying his vacation in a restaurant. However, fortuity will make him witness a murder, and he will be placed again in an investigation to find who killed an Englishman named Neil Robson. Did the crime occur out of love? Is it for money? Throughout the pages, the reader will be left wondering who among Neil's group of friends who were in town (and their wives) is the murderer.
In the Heart of Prague (Honza Book 1) by Andrew Pratt, as anyone can guess, is categorized as C/T/M/H. The story is typical of a book of this genre, but it is very well constructed and makes the reader wonder what happened. Until the end of the book, there is no way to be sure if the murder occurred by someone close or by an unknown person.
It's true that if we're going to be realistic, the chance of an English professional like Jonny being in the same Czech restaurant as a group of English friends when a murder occurs is pretty low. I don't have any quibbles regarding this "poetic license," though. On the contrary, this work presents all the qualities this kind of book should have. What I liked the most was the mystery and how the author finished the plot. Halfway through the book, I was sure the culprit could only be two people. I couldn't have been more wrong: the killer was someone I didn't even suspect.
All in all, there's nothing I didn't like about the book. Even if some coincidences seem far-fetched, we must admit that some surprising coincidences happen even in our private lives. I want to stress that the author is articulate, the language is polished, and all aspects of the story make sense. There is no reason to deduct one star from the final score. The book's editing is professional since I only found one minor grammatical error.
Undoubtedly, In the Heart of Prague (Honza Book 1) is a real page-turner. It's intense, memorable, and powerful. In short, you'll find here everything you expect in a classic of the genre. The last paragraph clarified that the most suitable score for this work is four out of four stars. I recommend this book to C/T/M/H lovers (to no specific subgroups). I found some profane words, but nothing that will shock the most prudish reader.

You an I, tonight!
You may forget the warmth he gave,
I will forget the light.
When you have done, pray tell me
That I my thoughts may dim;
Haste! lest while you're lagging.
I may remember him!
