Review of Storming Babylon
Storming Babylon: Book One of the Horrors and Hoagies series by Fox & Hat is a horror story about Frankenstein's 400-year-old son, Lord Adam Stein, who is falling apart. Dr. Artem Koslov, whose Grandpa Igor Koslov was Dr. Frankenstein's assistant when Adam and Yvette were created, must find the parts to save him. Yes, you read that right, Lord Stein is now missing an arm, and their supply of body parts is missing. Dr. Koslov goes to Papa Mac for help because the Underground Meet will occur with the next full moon, and Adam has to be healthy to prevent an imbalance between the mortals and immortals. Papa Mac refers Dr. Koslov to Private Eye Dominic Mackavail and his assistant, Jackie. Their first stop is the Happy Trails Mortuary and Crematorium, where they find everyone dead. Who killed everyone at the mortuary? Who is Dominic, and how is he tied into everything?
This 119-page book contains 18 short chapters that will keep you wondering who the good and bad guys are. Each chapter title gives you a good idea of what that chapter is about. The book's cover drew me in because of the man with a pumpkin head. Is that just a disguise, or is he a pumpkin? As you read this book, you will enter a world where the supernatural and mortals live together. You will ask yourself if your neighbor or co-worker is hiding a secret about themselves. There are lessons to be learned in this book. One of my favorites was, "It is always good to know one's potential enemy as well as you know one's potential friends." This statement makes sense to me.
The only negative aspect of this book is that a professional editor has not edited it. Throughout the book, there is missing punctuation, wrong punctuation, and capitalized words in the middle of the sentences, to name a few. Although the errors were distracting, I still enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next one in the series.
Considering this book's positive aspects and my reading enjoyment, I have decided to give it 3 out of 4 stars. The only reason I am deducting one star is the book's number of errors. If the author has the book edited by a professional editor, it will deserve the highest score possible.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy horror, detective, and science-fiction books with characters like vampires, werewolves, zombies, and other monsters. I do not recommend this book to sensitive readers because of the gory content.
