Review of Her Only Witness
We are not what happened to us but what we have chosen to be; thus, we should let go of the life expected of us and start living the life waiting for us.
Her Only Witness is a book penned by Margaret Silva. It was intentionally divided into sixty-one chapters and written in two hundred and eighty-six pages. It is a fictional work that centers majorly on mental health and the fact that most times, we are survivors of our past and not victims as posed.
Margaret’s story centers primarily on three individuals. The first is Valerie, a divorcee who experienced a fire accident as a child, followed by Michael, a boy who suffered from schizophrenia and witnessed the death of his father, and Treven, a Jamaican boy who was a victim of domestic abuse from his stepfather. A common factor between the three characters is that they refuse to be defined by their past but by their future.
The story portrays the extent one can go to eliminate the only witness in one's crime, irrespective of any existing relationship. This could be seen in the relationship between Lillian and Michael and Valerie and her uncle, Jack. The book was full of suspense, and the twist at the end was unimaginable. It was an intriguing book. The story had a good aura of originality as opposed to fictional works.
One major aspect of the book that appealed to me the most was the author’s descriptive skill. It was top-notch and highly commendable. The style of words employed was very remarkable. I learned new words, and it was also easy to read and understand. The apt use of medical terms was exceptional. The structure of the chapters and punctuation trends employed made the book very engaging and detailed. It enabled me to understand their different points of view. I liked the fact that the theme of the book did not center only on the relationship between Jack and Valerie but also between Lilian and Michael.
I enjoyed every part of the book, apart from the minor errors in the book and the use of some vulgar words. This is very subjective, for it added to the originality of the work.
I will rate the work three out of four stars. My reason is because of the vulgar words used by some characters in the book, which I found disturbing.
I will gladly recommend this book to adults who have an interest in suspense-themed books and to movie producers to direct it into a movie. I firmly believe it will sell well in the entertainment industry.
