Review of Shadow of the Gypsy
Josh, the main character, is caught up in the middle of a bad deal that his mother made with a criminal out of desperation. Josh's life puzzles him, as he has never understood why his relationship with his biological mother turned out to be as bad as it is. Why was he given a new identity? Who is his father, and where is he if he still exists? It turns out that at a young age, Josh signed a deal that he wasn't aware of. In his adulthood, he moved to Carolina to start a new life, but things turned contrary to his expectations. The Russian criminal tracked Josh's location and ordered him to move back to Connecticut, for his time to act on the agreement had come.
After conducting risky investigations, Josh becomes aware that he will be forced to do some illicit business in Waterbury due to a promissory note he doesn't remember. His only hope is Paul, his boss, and FBI agents, who don't know him. He has to persuade these people to help him get himself and his mother out of Zharko's business, but none of them wants to buy his ideas. Moreover, Molly, Josh's ex-girlfriend, is also at risk if Josh doesn't comply with Zharko's terms or if he tries to betray him. Will the FBI agents and the newspaper editor believe Josh and come to his aid? Or will Josh give in until the end of the deal, given that Zharko's men took away his phone and his moves are put under strict supervision? Shadow of the Gypsy, by Shelly Frome, has all the answers to the above questions.
Shelly Frome has combined themes like drug abuse, betrayal, and injustice to create this fantastic page-turner thriller. I enjoyed the action-packed in this book and the little traces of romance and reunion. Moreover, this book has a fantastic plot. Despite being fiction, it involved real places like Ohio, Nashville, etc., and gangs like the Mafia, thus making the story feel real. I also liked the flow of events in this book. Each preceding chapter gave more insight into the account and created an atmosphere for readers to predict the next event.
Last but not least, I appreciate the author's simple vocabulary. He used common words for readers to easily understand, and I saw no challenging terms that could ruin my reading enjoyment. The title of the book also connects perfectly with the story. Consequently, I will give the author a thumbs up for that.
Shadow of the Gypsy was professionally edited. There's nothing that I disliked about the book. Therefore, I will rate it 4 out of 4 stars. This book will perfectly suit lovers of crime and drug cartel-related stories. I also recommend it to teenage readers because it doesn't contain intense profanity or sexual content. However, I must warn you that this book doesn't start on a high note. Readers must be patient, and in later chapters, they will connect the dots and love the book.

The author seems to have successfully delivered a crime thriller about gangs and drug cartels while bringing the reader along to follow the plot. Each preceding chapter gave more insight into the account and created an atmosphere for readers to predict the next event.
