Zeke Olsen is not in good health and psychological condition ever since his parents' demise in an auto crash. This is evident as he has to continually treat his internal wound, taking pills. And as the memory of his parents' demise haunts him for a longer time, he is often found getting lost in his thoughts and disconnected from his environment.

One day, on one of his visits to New York, he was walking along an alleyway, and a group of New York gang members laid hands on him and left him wounded and unconscious. Later, the three gangs were found dead just in the environs of this alleyway. Zeke was suspected to be the culprit, and he was left in a dilemma, not knowing the memory from which he would devise a premise for an argument that he did not kill but had only been attacked.

This formed the beginning of several problematic events in his later life. And another problem was woven in as he began to discover his loved ones and friends dying unbeknownst to him. Someone in his life is responsible for this turbulent period. But who could it be?

Tabula Rasa by J.S. Morton is a crime fiction novel that centered around the life of Zeke—his love affairs, especially with Cassie, his professional life, his friendly life with Karan, and his suffering from unending attacks by the legal and illegal groups of New York City.

The book proves to be an entertaining piece, as each character has a unique way of thrilling readers. Indeed, from the start of the book, I began to be thrilled by the actions and speeches of the characters. For example, let's take a look at Ray, Karan's friend. Ray is a keen lover of beers whose body would always emit beer odor because of his reckless drinking. And his drunkard attitude while under the influence of alcohol is hilarious. In an instance, while he's drunk already, he begins to drink and wet his body with the rest of the beer and peeing on the move. It is encouraging as Karan could maintain an intimate friendship with the careless Ray and, at the same time, with Zeke, who is job-oriented.

Zeke's thrilling character is from the amnesia that bewilders him from time to time and the dramas he faces as a result. This characteristic of his character adds to the book's humorous quality, though. I like the moderate romance sprinkled in this book. Precisely, it was sweet how Zeke relates with Lara in a carnal frenzy and love exhaustion, as Zeke found out that she understands him even more than Cassie, who has been his longtime lover mate.

The book is riveting, and it is sure to keep readers asking what's next until the end of the story. And hence, I recommend it to lovers of suspenseful stories with a moderate romantic touch. I would urge other readers who are not lovers of suspenseful novels to note that this book is not fast-paced, and the author intertwines the major story continuity with those scenes that represent Zeke's reflection on his past. And sometimes, he mixes scenes in his dreams with scenes in his waking times. I didn't dislike this quality of the novel, as it has a unique beauty that adds to the creativity of the story's presentation.

The author's connection of scenes and writing style made the story flow in a film-like manner, such that I could feel as though I was in the story with the characters. The book has been professionally edited, as I could only find a few typos in it. I didn't dislike anything in this book, and I've got to rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

Ray's drunken display is really hilarious and irritating: peeing on himself when drunk is most irritating. But this book sounds like a thriller and I would want to know the reason behind the killings.
